JL Sitemap v2.2.0

The JoomLine team is pleased to introduce a new update to one of the most popular sitemap generation extensions — JL Sitemap 2.2.0. This release makes sitemap generation more reliable, adds full Joomla 6 compatibility, and significantly improves performance on multilingual sites.

What's new in JL Sitemap 2.2.0?

  • Reliable sitemap generation. Sitemap files are now written atomically: the new set replaces the old one only after a successful build. If generation is interrupted, your live sitemap.xml stays intact.
  • Joomla 6 ready. The extension is fully compatible with Joomla 5 and 6 and has been migrated to the current API. Minimum requirements are Joomla 5 and PHP 8.1.
  • Improved multilingual support. Fixed scheduled generation (CLI and the Joomla Task Scheduler) on multilingual sites, as well as correct VirtueMart SEF URL building for languages with different aliases.
  • Valid image sitemap. Image URLs are now escaped and cleaned — your sitemap passes validator checks even when image URLs contain special characters.
  • Accurate robots handling. The noindex rule is detected precisely and no longer "leaks" onto neighboring menu items; an empty local value is inherited from the site's global settings.
  • Modern scheduling. Added integration with the Joomla Task Scheduler and a warning about the deprecated cron plugin.

Why it matters for you

A sitemap is the foundation of proper indexing. The 2.2.0 update ensures that search engines always receive a valid, up-to-date sitemap, while the generation process stays stable even on large, multilingual projects. You save time and can be confident that your site's SEO is in perfect shape.
